At The SENATOR: Fritz Lang’s METROPOLIS (1927) with 25 minutes of newly restored footage!

Think you’ve seen METROPOLIS? Think again.

METROPOLIS at The Senator!

1 WEEK ONLY!

After a nearly complete 16mm print was found in Buenos Aires, not only was there 25 minutes of previously “lost” footage (not seen since the film’s opening in Berlin) that fills major gaps in the story’s plot lines, but also revealed the film’s original editing order.

Now, you can experience “The Complete METROPOLIS”, newly restored, at Baltimore, Maryland’s historic SENATOR Theatre, but don’t wait, it’s only here for 1 week!

Auction Countdown: 5 Days – See RASHOMON now!

Senator-color-adThis weekend could be your last, best chance to see a movie at one of the “10 Best Movie Theaters In America” (by Moving Pictures Magazine), The Senator Theatre!

Barring any last minute saviour, the last historic single-screen movie house in Baltimore City will be auctioned off next Wednesday (July 22) at 11:00 AM.

While dismissing the viability of transitioning the theatre to non-profit ownership, city official have tried to reassure the community that things will turn out fine – We all desperately hope that means better faring than the historic Mayfair Theatre (whose roof collapsed under the city’s ownership).

So, make plans now to visit The Senator Theatre for a real big screen treat:

Baltimore: A City of Theatres (updated) on Vimeo

Created by a group of “historic theatre nuts”, this presentation is meant to emphasize what has been lost in what was once known as “A City of Theatres” and that the fate of this city’s last historic, art deco, single-screen movie house hangs in the balance as it heads toward foreclosure auction.

The community & Friends of The Senator Theatre would still prefer to see it become the premiere multi-purpose arts, entertainment & educational venue envisioned by current owner Tom Kiefaber.

If you know any individuals or groups that agree with this vision, PLEASE have them contact Mr. Kiefaber via info@senator.com!

Supporters of The Senator create film tribute

Those who attended Senator Joan Carter Conway’s meeting at The Senator last evening were “treated” to a film short entitled, “Baltimore – A City of Theatres”.

We say “treated”, because the intended affect on the audience is not one of “warm fuzzies”, but rather a wake-up call. One to citizens, film buffs & fellow “historic theatre nuts” that that a city once chock full of theatres (over 150 at one time!?), each with their own personality, are now an endangered species…

Moreover, that The Senator Theatre
is the last historic single-screen movie house left in the city!

In our opinion anyone with a bit of historic sensibility or even sentimentality for lost things of beauty will have a difficult time watching this without a knot in their stomach or a tear in their eye.
