City Defaces Senator Theatre “Walk of Fame”?!

Heading to The Senator Theatre yesterday to again volunteer (all the folks helping to run daily operations at the theatre are volunteers now, in case you didn’t know), we noticed a lot of spray paint marks along & in York Road as we approached.

We were stunned however to see that someone had spraypainted red dots across several of the commemorative sidewalk blocks that comprise the theatre’s prized “Walk of Fame”!

Once inside we asked about this and were told that a volunteer discovered the markings the night before. The blocks hit with paint are Barry Levinson’s Liberty Heights, John Dahl’s Rounders, John Waters’ Cry Baby, Brett Ratner’s Red Dragon, Bethany Rooney’s Mixed Blessings, Carroll Ballard’s Fly Away Home & Victor Fleming’s Gone With The Wind (50th Anniversary)!

Our questions are:

  1. WHY wasn’t the theatre notified?!
  2. WHO authorized spraypainting these famous pieces of art?!
  3. WHY was it necessary to deface the blocks? Couldn’t an alternative been used?!

We’re pretty confident in stating this wouldn’t happened to the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre sidewalk, so why was it okay here?
